BITS (Brainport Innovation & Technology for Security) brings together the solutions of innovative companies and the innovation needs of Defence. So that companies operating mainly in the civilian market can make their innovations applicable to defence and security (dual use). With BITS, the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the province of North Brabant, Brainport Development and the Brabant Development Company (BOM) strengthen the earning capacity of business and the province of North Brabant and contribute to the safety and resilience of the Netherlands.
Shifts in the geopolitical balance of power make threats ever closer. Therefore, as a society, we increasingly focus on security. As an innovative technological leader, how can Brabant work towards a safe and resilient society where we can live comfortably, so that we maintain our strategic autonomy and thus continue to have sufficient raw materials, food and energy?
In 2023, this ambition received a concrete translation in the form of BITS (Brainport Innovation & Technology for Security). A collaboration of the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the province of North Brabant, Brainport Development and the Brabant Development Company (BOM). The choice to start in Brabant is obvious. A major factor is the innovative character of the region. In addition, Defence is the second largest employer in the province and active in many places in Brabant. BITS started from Brainport, but is not region-specific.
With (technological) innovations, entrepreneurs can contribute to our resilience and security. BITS guides companies operating mainly in the civilian market to make their innovations applicable to defence and security (dual use). Innovations find their way to Defence and the market faster this way. BITS fulfils the innovation needs of Defence, strengthens the earning capacity of business and province and contributes to the safety of the Netherlands.
