Here's to a future with cheaper photonic chips and cheaper data transfer! 🙌
With photonic chips, data transfer 🔁 is faster. There is also no heat production that the large data centers are suffering from now. But that couldn't be done with the cheap material silicon (sand). For this, the much more expensive and rarer materials gallium arsenide and indium phosphide are now used. Fortunately, researchers from the @tueindhoven found a way to use silicon to make photonic chips.
