Digital Infrastructure for Future-Proof Mobility (DITM)

Within DITM, the partners are developing a system architecture for digital infrastructure, including the critical core technologies associated with localization, traffic services, digital maps, and charging infrastructure. This is the basis for enabling higher levels of autonomous driving, a cyber secure and reliable interconnection of electric vehicles, and the management of energy infrastructure.

The Netherlands as a guide for smart mobility

The DITM consortium brings together forces from the international automotive sector, ICT industry, traffic management, and mobility innovation. This integrated approach builds on the Netherlands' strong position in the field of digital infrastructure. In a country like ours—compact, well-connected, and innovative—we can demonstrate how a Cooperative, Connected & Automated Mobility (CCAM) system works in practice: safely, effectively, cyber-secure, scalable, and brand-independent.

From mobility to system 

Why digital infrastructure is the real breakthrough 

Europe is entering a decisive phase in the transition towards clean and connected mobility. The technologies are advancing rapidly, but the challenge is no longer technology alone. The challenge is to integrate mobility, energy and digital infrastructure into systems that are reliable, scalable and ready for deployment. 

That ambition has driven the Digital Infrastructure for Futureproof Mobility (DITM) project from the very beginning. Over the past four years, DITM has brought together companies, knowledge institutes and public authorities to develop, connect and validate the Key Enabling Technologies that will shape tomorrow’s mobility system. Together, we have demonstrated how digital infrastructure can enable vehicles, infrastructure, energy systems and operational platforms to work together in concrete use cases. 

The real breakthrough is not the development of individual technologies. It is the integration of technologies, data, infrastructure and organisations into a system that works reliably in practice. 

That is also why DITM matters beyond this project. The Brainport region continues to grow, bringing new challenges for accessibility, sustainability and quality of life. Initiatives such as the Brainportlijn illustrate the ambition to create smarter mobility solutions for the region, while DITM provides part of the technological foundation needed to make that future possible. At the same time, the project strengthens the innovative capacity and competitiveness of Dutch and European industry. 

The two whitepapers that follow capture the knowledge, experience and lessons generated throughout DITM. Together they show what has been achieved, what has been validated and where further work is needed to move from successful demonstrations to large-scale deployment. 

Project themes

Under the leadership of Brainport Development, the project partners are working specifically on the development of:

EnergyPod: safe energy exchange for EVs

The EnergyPod forms the link between autonomous electric vehicles and the energy grid, providing energy to grid operators in a cyber-secure and reliable manner.

Autonomous vehicles: navigation & connectivity

Autonomous functions for localization, navigation, and connectivity in vehicles such as buses and cars within use cases such as yard maneuvering, bus stop control, and platooning.

Smart HD cards for autonomous driving

Innovative system that creates and updates HD maps using sensor information from smart vehicles, as a scalable alternative to traditional mobile mapping for autonomous driving.

Validation lab for smart mobility systems

Validation lab with simulations and test environments (A270, Fabulos) for technology validation and substantiation of system choices and mobility investments.
