Results feasibility study on hydrogen network in Brainport region presented
In recent months, a group of 12 companies led by Brainport Development and the Municipality of Eindhoven conducted a feasibility study into the possibility of building a hydrogen network in the urban area of the Brainport region. The province of North Brabant and Enexis were also closely involved in the study.
On 15 October, the results of the study were presented by WaterstofNet at the DAF site. Besides the front-runner group, consisting of the companies DAF Trucks, VDL Groep, Eindhoven Airport, HTL-DHT, Prysmian Group, Weber Beamix, High Tech Campus Eindhoven, KWS Asfaltcentrale and Dutch Bakery from Eindhoven, TNO Powertrains Test Centrum from Helmond, Rendac from Son, and Verzinkerij Meerveldhoven from Veldhoven, the relevant municipalities were also present.
The study investigated the demand for the potential use of hydrogen in the region. The results show that there is significant demand for hydrogen in Eindhoven and the surrounding area. Among the leading group, there is a projected demand of 11.5 kt of hydrogen per year in 2030.
In addition, seven supply options were considered. Of these, the advantages and disadvantages were put side by side and the indicative kg price for hydrogen per supply option was calculated.
Follow-up step
Regardless of which supply option is chosen, all options require a route study. With the leading group, it has been decided to jointly carry out this study. Other parties have the opportunity to join this route study. Interest in participating in this study can be expressed by companies in the urban area of the Brainport region, by sending an e-mail to Annemiek Bles, Energy Program Manager at Brainport Development.
