Building an inclusive labour market together

Everyone deserves the chance of a secure life. Work and education are an important basis for this. Despite the economic growth in our region, there are still people who need support in finding a suitable learning or working place. Brainport voor Elkaar is commited to working together with employers on untapped talent with initiatives such as Open Hiring, where motivation is more important than a CV, and Buddy Werkt, where over -50s are paired with experienced professionals. 

 

Brainport Employment Plan

Inclusive employment will become the norm in Brainport as far as we are concerned. Together with more than 20 members, we have developed an action plan to strongly increase inclusive employment in the regio. With this, we support employers in their social role towards employees and increasing sustainable employability. And with tools, social innovations and technological solutions to enable inclusiveness in the workplace.

We focus on three tasks:

  • Inclusivity as a business model: There are many examples of inclusive employers in Brainport, from large to small. By looking in each other's kitchen as entrepreneurs and sharing experiences, we can help each other. Every employer can look within its organisation for a model where being an inclusive employer is also responsible.
  • Inclusiveness as a business model: There are many resources for responsible inclusiveness as a business, such as advice, help and subsidies. Together, we can make these accesible to all employers in the region. 
  • Regional innovation lab: Some labour market issues require social and technological innovations. In a regional lab, we can work on (future) solutions aimed at sustainable employability, increasing labour productivity and deployment of technology/AI. 

In 2024, we realised a joint plan of action around inclusive employment, which we will roll out further in 2025.

Inclusive recruiting with Open Hiring: a job without an interview

Many people get sidelined. Unnecessarily. Because ther is plenty of work and plenty of talent. If we put prejudices aside, we can make the right matches. Open Hiring is an approach that focuses on people's motivation and suitability. We tell people clearly what the tasks are and what they need to be able to do. And applying for jobs is nothing more than putting your name on a list. Cover letters and interviews are a thing of the past. So we give everyone a chance to get a job.

Get back to work faster with Buddy Works

Getting back to work faster; that is the aim of 'Buddy Werkt'. With this programme, we link job-seeking people over 50 to a buddy (a CEO, manager or director) who thinks along with them and makes his or her network available. 'Buddy Werkt' is an initiative of the UWV, Ergon and a number of municipalities in the region. Brainport voor Elkaar would like to further roll out this great initiative in the region.
