Sustainability has long since ceased to be a standalone initiative in the high-tech industry. Internal ambitions, customer requirements, legislation and supply chain agreements ultimately translate into concrete challenges for engineers: carbon footprints, design changes to reduce the carbon footprint and alternative materials are all discussed during design reviews.
So the question is no longer whether it affects you, but what it actually means for the engineer at the drawing board.
In this workshop, AAE takes you from ‘why’ to ‘how’. We’ll start with the background: why AAE is taking sustainability seriously and how that ambition translates to the engineering department. We’ll then zoom in on the NPI process itself: at what stages do you actually determine a product’s environmental footprint, and which choices really make a difference? This brings us to the LCA quick scan: a pragmatic tool that allows you to set the direction early in the design phase, without the need for a full LCA study.
Following a tour of our production facility in Helmond, you’ll get to try it out for yourself. In an interactive session, you’ll apply the quick scan to a case study, and together we’ll discuss the results, the assumptions and the limitations of the tool.
