Since Philips arrived in Eindhoven, the technical industry has defined the city's identity. Without the factories, without the migrant workers that the company brought in from elsewhere, but also without the residential areas, schools, cultural, health, and educational institutions, and the PSV stadium built with Philips' support, Eindhoven would look very different, both literally and figuratively.

New companies such as ASML and VDL have taken over that role. This means that the city, the region, and the companies involved, as well as institutions such as TU/e and Fontys, are facing similar challenges to those of the past. How are they dealing with this, what can they do for each other, and where do the problems lie, especially in light of recent geopolitical developments? And what do these developments mean for the city's residents?

Speakers:

  • Gerard Kleisterlee, former CEO of Philips, former chairman of the supervisory board of ASML
  • Roger Dassen, chief financial officer of ASML
  • Silvia Lenaerts, rector magnificus of TU/e
  • Jeroen Dijsselbloem, mayor of Eindhoven

Forum: Living in a booming technology hub:

Wessel Mandos (city councilor, Veldhoven) - Paul van Nunen (director, Brainport Development) - Tanja Mlaker (director, Stichting Cultuur Eindhoven) - Marcel Brands (managing director, PSV)

  • Chair: Cindy de Koning

Organizer: Academisch Genootschap Eindhoven.
