Brainport Takes a Step Towards Becoming an International Biomaterials cluster
Eindhoven, December 12, 2024 – Today, SBMC, High-Tech Campus Eindhoven, BOM, TU/e, Fontys University of Applied Sciences, Helmond Biotech-materials Hub, and Brainport Development signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to position Brainport internationally as the key region for the development and commercialization of smart biomaterials for medical applications. The shared goal is to create a strong ecosystem where innovation, talent, and entrepreneurship converge.
“This collaboration accelerates innovation, drives economic growth, and fosters the development of groundbreaking technologies that improve healthcare,” said spokesman Jan Rietsema, ceo from Smart BioMaterials Consortium (SBMC). The ambitions include hosting conferences and an annual hackathon, supporting startups through venture-building programs, and providing additional lab spaces. Efforts are also focused on attracting top talent and investments to the region. “Beyond the economic benefits, we hope this collaboration will speed up the availability of innovations in regenerative medicine for patients,” Rietsema added.
