MBO graduates in Southeast Brabant are entering the IT sector as lateral entrants: ‘Coming in with a fresh perspective’

The ‘Typisch IT’ project, which is the focus of this article in the Eindhovens Dagblad newspaper, has retrained 34 people for careers in the IT sector. This initiative by Brainport Development, UWV and Summa ICT trains people with a vocational education background for careers in the IT sector in Southeast Brabant. The project aims to tackle the shortage of IT workers by retraining unemployed people for jobs such as tech support or service desk assistant.
The training programme offers both a six-week full-time course and a 20-week evening course. Participants not only learn technical skills, but also receive job application training and guidance. Admission to the course requires an individual career counselling interview to assess motivation and feasibility.
So far, four groups have successfully completed the course, with 34 people now working in the IT sector in the region.
