Strijp-T campus: innovation and collaboration go hand in hand, with a nod to history
The former Philips site Strijp-T has been transformed into a dynamic campus in a short time. While retaining the authentic look of yesteryear, the business park is now a place where innovative (manufacturing) companies, research institutes and education join forces. The common thread? Working together on solutions for tomorrow's world. The partnership with the Brainport Partnerfonds is a perfect match.
‘Strijp-T is a perfect example of what is possible in the Brainport region,’ says Boudie Hoogedeure enthusiastically. As the commercial manager, he is the face of Strijp-T. Our region is characterised by its unique mentality: working together and just doing it. As a result, we can achieve things here that seem impossible in other places.
Old, new and green
Anyone walking across the Strijp-T campus will understand Hoogedeure's pride. In a short time, Strijp-T has been transformed from a run-down factory site into a lively, modern and inspiring business park where numerous innovative companies and organisations have settled. Good examples are drone developer Avular, electron microscope manufacturer Thermo Fisher Scientific and economic development company Brainport Development. Today, the former Philips factories are surrounded by a park-like environment that is frequently used for networking meetings, sports classes and (lunch) walks.
Hoogedeure: ‘Strijp-T is more than a business park, it is an appealing community.’ The special buildings on the site certainly contribute to this, according to Hoogedeure. 'Users can easily meet each other. You can't build buildings like this these days. And you don't have to; the power lies in improving what is already there.'
More than stacking bricks
When Hoogedeure was asked to join the Brainport Partnerfonds with Strijp-T campus, he did not have to think long. We fully agree with the objectives of the private fund, such as finding and binding talent and keeping the region accessible. The upgrade of Strijp-S railway station (formerly Eindhoven Beukenlaan) is a priority as far as Hoogedeure is concerned. 'Nice that we can accelerate these kinds of developments from this fund.
Future of Strijp-T
Hoogedeure already has a clear picture of what Strijp-T will look like in about five years. ‘By then, all the buildings will have been transformed, the 1,000 trees plan will have been implemented and Strijp-T will be a fully-fledged campus of which the region is just as proud as the other campuses in the Brainport region.’
