Brainport Eindhoven Regional Deal Officially Finalised
EINDHOVEN, 27 August 2026 - The publication of a final report marks the end of the eight-year Brainport Eindhoven Regional Deal. Between 2018 and 2025, the national government, the Province of North Brabant and the Brainport region jointly invested 479 million euros in the region’s future. It was the first time that the national government and the region had invested together on this scale in innovation, talent development and regional facilities.
The Brainport Eindhoven Regional Deal marked a new approach to collaboration. A total of 26 projects were carried out to strengthen innovation, the economy and quality of life in the Brainport region, the results of which are now evident in towns and villages throughout the region.
For example, investment was made in integrated photonics and smart mobility solutions, and students were given more opportunities to gain practical experience in blended learning environments. Internationalisation also became an integral part of the curriculum at 90 per cent of schools in the region. In addition, local facilities received a boost, including the refurbishment of De Braak sports park in Helmond, the De Tongelreep National Swimming Centre and the expansion of the GLOW light festival to several municipalities. New partnerships also emerged between municipalities, educational institutions, businesses and civil society organisations, which now form the basis for new regional programmes.
“When the Regio Deal began in 2018, there was a clear ambition: to harness the power of innovation for social progress. Eight years on, we can see that this shared ambition has yielded significant results. Investments have been made in facilities, talent development and innovations to tackle social challenges. The Regio Deal has demonstrated what we can achieve when the region and central government work together. With confidence, we are continuing to build a region in which everyone can participate and has the opportunity to develop,” says Jeroen Dijsselbloem, chairman of the Brainport Foundation.
The Regional Deal has not only led to tangible results for residents, but also to stronger regional cooperation between public authorities, educational institutions, businesses and civil society organisations. This cooperation now forms the basis for the next phase of Brainport’s development, in which the region faces major challenges in the areas of housing, accessibility, talent, facilities and maintaining a socially strong region.
