The state and the region invest almost 1.6 billion in improving the infrastructure of Brainport Eindhoven

Great news! The government and the Brainport region are going to jointly invest almost 1.6 billion euros in the accessibility of Brainport Eindhoven. This is an important and necessary step for our region because our unique high-tech manufacturing industry makes us a region of national and European strategic importance. At the same time, we want to remain a place where everyone can live, travel and participate for all current and future residents.
Better infrastructure and accessibility
The investments are necessary for a better station, new public transport routes in the region, fast cycle paths, mobility hubs and better rail connections. Moreover, these additional investments will create space for additional housing. Especially in the mid-range segment, we need tens of thousands of additional homes in the region, preferably starting today.
Investments are an absolute necessity for a balance between top technology in the region and quality of life.
The director of Brainport Development, Paul van Nunen, is pleased with the announced investments but emphasises that the work is not finished after today. ‘As a region, we are going to work on accessibility, housing construction and better facilities in the region for at least ten years,’ says Van Nunen. ‘This gives us the opportunity to maintain the necessary balance between being a top international region on the one hand and, on the other, being a region where everyone can feel at home and has a place with more affordable housing, better facilities and more sustainable mobility.’
Talent and innovation also up for discussion in addition to infrastructure investments
The national government, the 21 municipalities in the Eindhoven Metropolitan Region, the province and businesses are joining forces to work on implementing infrastructural measures over the next ten years. In addition to these investments in accessibility and housing, the national government and the region are also making joint plans to develop everyone's talents and to further strengthen the innovative power of the Netherlands.
