Software innovation is key for digital reinvention within high tech industry due to high volumes of data and the need for connected devices. Across these industries we see traditionally product focused companies transform into eco-systems of solutions and services, elevating software to a cornerstone for their future proposition development and data-driven process improvement. This requires that companies invest in their software capabilities to modernize applications in a flexible, open, and secure manner.

IBM joined over 30 software companies as a new technology partner of the High Tech Software Cluster (HTSC), a project of Brainport Development that is located in the Software Competence Center (SCC) on the Brainport Industries Campus (BIC) in Eindhoven. This project focusses on technological developments in the manufacturing and smart systems industry. IBM aims to collaborate with HTSC member companies on building innovative and smart solutions for manufactures and electronics companies, helping to support their digital transformation.

Collaboration in ecosystems is among the strong drivers of innovation in a high-tech environment, said Edwin van Vianen, Electronics Industry leader Benelux, “We have a shared vision with HTSC that hardware not only needs to be modernized through software innovation but also by building agility and open source to innovate at scale and speed”.

Technical enablement

Together with IBM Developer*, we aim to closely work with HTSC member companies so we can help software and cloud developers to deepen their understanding on various cloud and AI technologies, both open source and from IBM. The focus will be on how to overcome technical challenges. Our team is all about open source code; everything we build is built and maintained on GitHub following open source best practices. IBM Developer team will provide technical hands-on workshops, tech talks or demos to explore the innovation engines and Developer Advocates to explore and enhance developer capabilities at no cost.

Hybrid cloud & AI

Next to enablement and industry expertise, IBM brings a wealth of expertise and technology that can enhance, augment or support our partners in their acceleration of digital transformation. In addition, we have our Research and Development programs which can also bring value to this partnership, said Victoria Bunyard, IBM CTO Benelux, “equally importantly we bring our global network of partners and collaborations to HTSC, with their own hybrid cloud and AI innovations, expertise and enthusiasm which can expand the ecosystem beyond borders”.

About the High Tech Software Cluster

The High Tech Software Cluster is a project initiated by Brainport Development, to help industrial companies find their way in digitisation. The aim of this project is to jointly develop smart products, services and business models using software technology, to stimulate innovation and value creation. The cluster develops and delivers the competencies, products, services and knowledge that are needed for smart companies that want to win the digitisation race. The topics within HTSC are focused on smart Industry themes: robotics, digital factory, high tech software, future manufacturing 4.0 skills and capabilities, Internet of Things and Data & AI. HTSC is part of the Smart Industry Fieldlabs connected to the “Factory of the Future” innovation program, located at the Brainport Industries Campus in Eindhoven.
