We are Eindje Bouwen, a student initiative in Eindhoven that has been committed to new forms of student housing development since 2024. Driven by the belief that everyone has the right to affordable, liveable and social housing, we work on creative solutions for the spatial issues of today and tomorrow.

Our commitment

As a foundation, we are committed to the temporary reuse of vacant properties for student housing and to promoting social cohesion, participation and sustainability. With our team, we combine design, research and action to increase the supply of quality housing.

Working with the city

Operating in Eindhoven, we work closely with residents, the local council, housing associations and other parties in the region. Each project starts with a suitable building and the associated social challenge, whereby we always seek sustainable, social and feasible solutions.

More than just building

Our team consists of students from diverse backgrounds: from architecture and urban planning to real estate. What unites us is the ambition to bring about positive change through spatial thinking. At Eindje Bouwen, we learn to collaborate with many different stakeholders, each with their own goals, and to manage a foundation. In doing so, we develop skills in creativity, entrepreneurship, and social engagement.

Student teams: innovating for a better future

We work closely with the Municipality of Eindhoven, Eindhoven University of Technology, Fontys University of Applied Sciences and Design Academy Eindhoven. These parties, among others, have signed the Student Housing Covenant to increase the supply. With this Covenant, everyone is on the same page; through this collaboration, we contribute to the common goals. In this environment, we are given the space to learn by doing, make an impact and contribute to the future of housing for our fellow students.

A blog will be published on this webpage every three months. In this blog series, we will show how our own experiences as students – in the midst of the housing crisis – drive us to seek solutions and apply them in practice. As a young foundation, we still have a lot to learn, which is why we constantly seek new insights from experts. Each blog focuses on a topic that concerns us, together with a partner who helps us on our way.

In our first blog on 9 September, we talk to Reinier van Abbe, co-owner of project developer PM+ Van Abbe, about the importance of networking and collaboration in project development and the complexity that comes with it.
