Unlocking the potential of connected light

At Signify, lighting is more than illumination. It is a connected technology that can help people feel better, buildings operate more efficiently and cities become smarter and more sustainable.

Signify develops energy-efficient LED lighting, connected lighting systems, smart home solutions and data-enabled services. These technologies are used in homes, offices, cities, industrial environments, retail, hospitality, sports venues, public infrastructure and horticulture.

Platforms such as Interact combine lighting with sensors, software and data. This allows organisations to monitor energy use, manage spaces more effectively and respond to changing conditions. In homes, brands such as Philips Hue and WiZ enable people to personalise their lighting and create connected living environments.

With more than 160 million connected lighting points worldwide, Signify is helping drive the digital transformation of the lighting industry.

Innovation remains central to the company’s strategy. Its teams work on technologies in areas such as energy efficiency, connectivity, automation, circularity, wellbeing and sustainable urban development. In 2025, Signify invested €255 million in sustainable innovation, representing 96% of its total R&D spending.

Turning light into healthier crops

Blake Lange is Business Development Manager for Horticulture at Signify. He has been working at Signify for many years and has held a variety of roles across the business. What attracted him to the company was its long history of innovation and the opportunity to keep learning. Throughout his career, he has worked on projects ranging from lighting high-rise buildings and conservatories to developing lighting solutions for elephants and greenhouse crops.

Today, Blake helps American growers improve crop quality, predictability and yields by translating Signify’s research into practical applications. “What stands out to me is our ability to create value that goes far beyond lighting.”

More than lighting
Coming from a family with a long farming tradition, Blake understands the challenges growers face. That makes his work even more meaningful. By applying the knowledge developed at Signify’s research centre in Eindhoven, he helps customers use light recipes that support healthier crops, more predictable harvests and more sustainable food production.

“At the end of the day, we’re helping the world to eat better and be healthier. That’s what I’m passionate about.”

Learning from others

One of the reasons Blake has stayed with Signify is the opportunity to keep growing. Throughout his career, he has always felt trusted to take ownership and encouraged to develop himself. “Throughout my career, I always felt supported and trusted by my managers. They believed in me and gave me the freedom to do what needed to be done.”

According to Blake, one of the greatest strengths of Signify is its international environment. With colleagues from different countries, backgrounds and disciplines, there is always someone to learn from.

“Never stop learning from the people around you. The experience and knowledge of your colleagues is one of the greatest opportunities you have.”
