Home is where the heart is, or so the saying goes. Being a new student in a new country may be challenging, and it takes a while before the new place feels like home. However, meeting new friends and working and studying together may be an excellent way to find your way in a new environment.

One excellent option to create your social circle while also working on big social and technical challenges is to engage in activities at TU/e innovation Space. Here are 5 ways that TU/e innovation Space can help you park your heart at TU/e while being a student there.

1.  Join forces with an interdisciplinary group of students

At TU/e innovation Space, located on TU/e campus, groups of students work together to find innovative solutions to a wide range of societal challenges. In this unique learning environment creativity, curiosity, and system thinking skills are fostered providing a platform for (international) students to get inspired and bring their ideas into practice. To get involved, spot for opportunities to partake in TU/e innovation Space supported Challenge-Based Learning (CBL) courses.

2. Work on a real-world problem that is close to your heart

The challenges you work on at TU/e innovation Space are presented by researchers, businesses and other stakeholders. While diving into these open-ended problems together with students from other departments you learn to collaborate, communicate, and work effectively with peers from diverse backgrounds and disciplines. Furthermore, when working on real challenges together with the owners of these challenges, you become a more proficient and impactful engineer.

Seeing the result of your hard work in practice is a great motivator and gives you purpose and drive for your education and future. It also ensures that future engineers focus on creating solutions that benefit society as a whole, rather than just pursuing technical advancements for their own sake.

3. 1+1 = 3 /Collaboration and impact while being a student team member

Your university experience can be so much more than just following the curriculum. A profound additional experience can be gained by joining one of the more than 40 Student Teams hosted by TU/e innovation Space. Involving a total of more than 650 students in teams big and small, the Student Teams are technology development organizations where students of all backgrounds work together on challenging engineering solutions in themes like sustainability, aviation, energy, health, smart mobility, and artificial intelligence. Joining a student team for a year can be a life-changing experience in terms of making new friends, in learning to work in diverse teams, as well as in seeing your work materialize in something truly remarkable like a concept vehicle, building, or a novel energy system. There is not many better ways to get hired by local high-tech industry than to have been a member of one of the student teams.

4. Go from a dream to a demo with state-of-the-art facilities

At TU/e innovation Space, you can directly make with your hands what your head comes up with. The facilities host a number of workshops and labs with modern equipment where you can shape your ideas under the technical instructions and supervision of professional staff. In the Matrix building innoSpace hosts a range of equipment from 3D printers, robot arms, laser cutters, sawing and painting capabilities, lathes to virtual-reality equipment so that your prototype development can be maximally convenient. Besides this, several meeting and collaboration spaces, including conference rooms, brainstorming areas, and group workspaces are at your disposal. These spaces facilitate student collaboration and teamwork, allowing you to work together, get inspired, exchange ideas, and help each other.

5. Get supported by the vivid innoSpace community

It's not just the labs that make TU/e innovation Space stand out. The support system for (international) students is unparalleled. The 70 staff members (including Student assistants) form a multilingual open community which is always at hand to help you out.
