De Tijd: Eindhoven, Europe's hidden tech valley

Recently, the Flemish business newspaper De Tijd focused on Brainport Eindhoven. This article outlines how the region developed into a leading technological hotspot after the mass redundancies in the 1990s. Journalist Wim de Preter provides insight into how, on the foundations of the old electronics company, a thriving ecosystem of high-tech companies and research centres has emerged, such as the Holst Centre (a collaboration between imec and TNO), and global players such as ASML, NXP and even connections with TSMC. Through intensive collaboration between the government, the business community and universities, the region has managed to retain and further develop its talent, making Eindhoven now known as the “hidden tech valley of Europe” and aspiring to play a key role in the European chip industry.
